III. Description of Venue

Overview

‘A truth that’s told with bad intent beats all the lies you can invent.’

                                                                                                  ~ William Blake

Mystery has surrounded the kindred of the Sarasota region since the first Kindred came to the area in the 1890’s. The last recorded sighting of a kindred presence in the area was in 2004 when Prince Nanclus paranoid of a potential alliance between nearby domains to invade the Domain. Nanclus decided to make a preemptive strike to prevent this breach into his domain. Nanclus’ paranoia in addition to other threats caused him to decide to act for the preservation of the Domain and destabilize the two domains before they can strike. When the Prisci discovered that Nanclus was responsible for recent covert actions within the nearby domains, they immediately had him removed from office. Hoping that they had acted in time before either domain discovered Nanclus’ actions, the Prisci decided to approach the domains in hopes to better assess the damages, ending years of silence.

Our game will take place in the counties of Sarasota and Manatee. In the World of Darkness, Sarasota and Manatee counties are a testament of opposites. Sarasota County has a reputation of a clean county, home to numerous financial and cultural institutions attracting droves of part time residents and retirees. Manatee County on the other hand is a dark industrial county polluted with violence and corruption home to the less fortunate and deprived.

Chapter 1

The first coterie of Vampires, led by Troy North and Allen Knox, began influencing the area around Sarasota in 1855 when Manatee County broke from Hillsborough County. The coterie’s agents had informed them of the land of opportunity and the riches to be found in the new world peninsula and the frontier of Florida. That place would become the garden of their Domain. Utilizing land speculators the coterie managed to purchase all the land that currently makes up Manatee and Sarasota Counties. With the land in hand they began preparing for mortal colonization.

Chapter 2

The colonization took decades but by the begging of the 20th Century the population of the area could now comfortably support the coterie and their childer, which immediately began to relocate, abandoning their former positions and severing all connections outside their new province.

Chapter 3

The greatest challenge to the early years of the domain was the death of Valkis in a citywide fire. Clan leaders fought and argued over who should lead the budding Domain. The region split into to two rival provinces of Sarasota and Bradenton. From the maelstrom rose the domain’s next leader: Nanclus, the grandchilder of Valkis.

Chapter 4

Nanclus continued to serve as Prince, growing more and more paranoid and determined to expand the Domain. Nanclus sent his best coteries to surrounding domains in an attempt to destabilize them. When discovered by the Prisci, Nanclus was immediately removed from Praxis.

Fearing retaliation, the Prisci sends emissaries to assess the damage and repair them, thereby breaking decades of isolation.

Chapter 5

The domain had five claims for praxis in the years 2005 - 2006, until Prince Paladin claimed the domain in the name of the Invictus.  The period of strife still echoes in the halls of Elysium.  Flocks of white ravens; mysterious labyrinths that span the city; and other, stranger tales go unexplained.  The modern nights of Sarasota continue to bring more questions than answers.

Chapter 6

As 2006 drew to a close, the Brood moved into the domain and the Prince’s rule was under challenge as a lack of faith plagued the Domain.  Already important mortals are being killed of in mass, reports of brutal murders, and political scandals are becoming commonplace in this once serene city.  Rumors of a darker entity creep into the polite conversations of Elysium more frequently than before.

IV. Theme

The day-to-day theme is lawlessness and oppression.  Character will get a definite sense that there is no established order that will protect them.  But at the same time there are those in power that refuse to relinquish the domain.

V. Mood

The venue radiates an atmosphere of despair and disorder.  The characters will have to make their way without the usual structures of Kindred society.  This will in turn make determination a character’s best asset.

VI. Player Information

Restrictions:   The VST reserves the right to use abilities described in the Camarilla addendum and the MST publications to ensure game balance, continuity, and local to global chronicle themes & moods.  This includes, but is not limited to : denying character concepts, abuses of the rules, denying character actions, denying XP expenditures, and any other disruptive action or behavior that is a detriment to the game.

Travel Information:  Access to the city is readily available via interstate 75, airport, train station, or the docks & ports along the coastline.

Feeding Guidelines & Challenges:

BP 1 characters start 7 Vitae
BP 2 characters start 8 Vitae
BP 3 characters start 9 Vitae
BP 4 characters start 9 Vitae
BP 5 characters start 10 Vitae
BP 6 characters start 11 Vitae
BP 7+ characters must conduct their feeding with the VST.

Herd allows characters to start with 1 extra Vitae per dot.  Otherwise, Herd functions normally.

Coil of Blood 1 functions normally on a successful draw.  A failed draw defaults to normal Feeding Guidelines.

Provisions not listed that increase a character’s ability to feed need to be approved by the VST.

Characters that have no City Status that have not been invited by a character with City Status start with half the blood that the above system would normally afford.

Any player may request a feeding scene to increase their blood pool depending on ST availability.

This system is designed to reduce out of character time at game.  Should a character want to start game with more vitae, they may have a feeding scene when an ST is available.

Challenges:  The player has the right to ask for a storyteller or designated narrator to assist/conduct any challenge or scene.  Any occurrence of character death or permanent changes to the character (such as lowered humanity, blood bonding, etc…) is VST notification.  Players should feel free to engage in challenges and scenes without a storyteller if every player involved is OK with it.

Experience Guidelines:  Four experience points is awarded per game. Three experience points is awarded for downtime actions.  One extra experience point may be granted per game based on nominations.

Venue Interests: All characters that have status, holdings, etc…  must report monthly the details of these items to the VST staff.

Newbie Guidelines:  All players will give new members leniency to the new member’s PCs.  This is in an effort to welcome new members to our club and it will quicken the learning process for the new member if they are given opportunity to learn from their mistakes by more experienced players.  Members found to not follow this guideline will be counseled by the VST and given a documented warning.  After a warning is given, the next violation will progress to disciplinary investigations.

Venue Border Rules:  Crossing the borders of the venue requires VST notification unless it is for the sole purpose of traveling to a different venue.

City Status Guidelines:  The character with City Status 5 needs to be at game at least once a month to maintain it.  Characters with City Status 4 need to be at game at least once every other month to maintain it.  Characters with City Status 3 need to be at game at least once every 3 months.  Characters with City Status 2 need to be at game once every 6 months.

The VST reserves the right to remove City Status at any time without notice if the VST knows about continuous inappropriate in-character behavior as long as there is no probability of in-character status removal otherwise.

The VST reserves the right to grant City Status at any time without notice if the VST knows about continuous appropriate in-character behavior as long as there is no probability of in-character status granting otherwise.

These provisions are designed to create a game where the status dots match the actual in-character social interactions.  Such as, no character should have Status 5 unless they are very active in local city kindred society and carry a high level of esteem/respect/fear/etc…

City Officer Guidelines:  The following are guidelines of how often City Officers need to attend game.  Failure to attend as outlined will result in either loss of status or loss of position.

The character that is Prince should be at game at least once a month to maintain their current position/status.

Characters who are Seneschal, Harpy, Sheriff, Prisci, or Primogen should be at game at least once every other month to maintain their current position/status.

Characters who are a Whip, Hound, or Herald should be at game at least once every 3 months to maintain their current position/status.

Characters who are an assistant to any the above positions should to be at game once every 6 months to maintain their current position/status.

The character that is the Master of Elysium needs to be at any game that is held on Elysium in order to maintain their current position/status.

Side Scenes:  Side Scenes that can be run in downtime should be run in downtime.  The ST reserves the right to run the scenes most relevant to game-play and run all other scenes during downtime.  Players are expected to design characters around gathering style LARP to ensure they have sufficient activity during the game without needing to go on irrelevant side scenes.

The Sarasota Opera House:  This Elysium is under the effects of the Fourth Tradition.

Inter-Venue Merits:  Using Merits such as Allies, Contacts, & various forms of Status (excluding Vampire Status Systems) are subject to VST modification wehereas the level is concerned should the merit be based from a different venue than the one it is being used in.  Ex: Dracula wants to use his Status: Occult in Sarasota, Florida.  Well his status level is 5 back in Transylvania, but being so far away from home, his effective level will be reduced per VST discretion per situation.
